Ahead of the crucial 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Sierra Leone in Freetown, Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong has revealed that the team is hungry for a victory.
The three-time African champions threw away a 4-goal lead to draw 4-4 against the Leone Stars on Friday – a performance that has drawn huge criticisms for the team.
However, Ekong is confident that the Super Eagles will come out flying from the game tonight if they can put up a similar display like they showed during the first half of Friday’s game in Benin and defend properly.
‘We are prepared just like every other game. We are not under estimating anyone. If we can bring what we did during the first half of the last game and make sure we concentrate and see out the game.
‘Nigerians will see a team that is very hungry to get the win. We want to qualify as soon as possible and if it’s up to us we will do it as soon as possible,’ Ekong said.
Nigeria has failed to win their last three matches after losing to Algeria and playing out a draw against Tunisia in recent friendlies – it makes the match against Sierra Leone a must win to ease the pressure on Gernot Rohr.
