Group wants befitting burial for Ojukwu
A pan Igbo group, South - Eastern States Association of Ndigbo in Italy, has called for a befitting burial for the late former Biafran leader, Dim Chukwuemka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.
The group in a statement signed by its coordinator and president of Anambra State Union in Italy, Ogbuefi Raphael Njirika, said Ojukwu should be given a befitting burial for his selfless service to the people of the South East. Njirika said: The death of our hero, Ezeigbo Gburugburu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu who slept in the Lord on November 26, last year is an epochal event. In life he awakened our consciousness to stand firm and resolute in the face of antagonism, marginalisation and man's inhumanity to man.
In death he brings to the fore his foresight that our determination to survive as a race cannot be defeated by external forces or intimidation. The co-coordinator of the group and Enugu State Union president in Italy, Dan Alum, charged Ndigbo to reflect on the need to develop their area, saying: It is time for us as Ndigbo to look inward, retreat from our expansionist tendencies and concentrate on developing our own land.
