Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS, Delta, has arrested 18 persons, including a kidnap gang of five, suspected to be connected with the abduction of the sister of Bayelsa State governor, Chief Seriake Dickson, late last year.
Recall that Nancy Dickson, younger sister of Seriake, although released early this year, was reportedly trailed and kidnapped on Okaka road, Yenagoa, in December last year.
Parading the suspects at the Warri Naval Base, Commander of the NNS Delta, Commodore Joseph Dzunve, told newsmen that they have been involved in crimes varying from impersonation, oil thieving to sea pirating and were apprehended at different locations.
He also disclosed that his men had arrested about six Cotonou boats, suspected to be loaded with different quantities of liquid substance suspecte to be stolen crude oil.
Dzunve who refrained from identifying the suspected kidnappers, said “they are pirates and most times they are the same people who take their victims as kidnappers.
However, some of his officers and men who partook in the arrest said the suspects, labelled as pirates had confessed to being responsible for the kidnap and eventual release of Dickson, after a paid ransom.
The alleged abductors of Governor Dickson’s sister were nabbed with explosives, ammunition and a gun making machine which they used to produce locally-made guns at Okuama community in Ughelli South Council Area of Delta State.
